While teaching at Barat College, Lake Forest, IL, Nancy joined protesters in the march for civil rights in Selma, Alabama, 3/7-21/1965.
Nancy also worked with Margaret Mary Burke, Flavia Augustine and Anna Mae Smith (a friend of theirs) in setting up a Barat College program for single mothers to continue their schooling, which included free childcare. In addition, she organized Barat College students to provide tutoring for the mothers and their children. Her advocacy for human rights included her engagement with the institutional Church as a Vicar for Women Religious.
